PHP-Nuke 6.5: vision and future Hello Nukers! I'm glad to announce that the work for the new version has been started. The road to follow on this future version is to integrate phpBB 2.x port made by Tom-n, create an innovative system to manage user's groups and add a lot of new modules. The most important change will be the forums. This is a very hard work because I want that phpBB forums and PHP-Nuke uses the same SQL abstraction layer. This means to convert phpBB port to the PHP-Nuke layer of viceversa, and after evaluate it, the best option may be to change PHP-Nuke layer to start using phpBB layer. If this can be done I need to be sure that the old modules are compatible, but the old layer system will be discontinued... This maybe sounds like a mess for some of you but all I can do is for good. Many people requested that PHP-Nuke forum should be phpBB 2, and I'll try to do my best on this direction. I'll come up with a dirt solution for the current forums. Right now I'm the evaluation process, so I can know how much work should be done. There are some issue I don't like about the current phpBB 2 forum port by Tom-n, but I also know that this is a step the people want to be made. No promises, but my best work will be on this. Also, this upcoming version will have a lot of modules. I want to give you a complete system, ready to use. I'll not include duplicated modules, I'll just select the ones I think that fits the core system standards, then you can always add your own or prefered modules. There are work in progress to create a very nice and totaly new News module (one of the most used modules of PHP-Nuke), so it can display as professional and diferent as you want. On this are you'll have a very nice surprises and the result will be awesone for sure. Users groups is another important feature to be included on the next version, as many of you requested. This new functionality will have a lot of features, all what you need to manage users groups. Also, I'll start to fix the default themes, remove some of them, create/include others, etc. and all the system will be theme sensitive (all). This means that possibly I need to start a standard on the CSS used, defining and organizing new style classes, etc. I think it's all for now... for sure you'll have announces here on the advance of this work, and shortly the first pre-Alpha releases will be released on the Club. If you have any suggestion or idea for this new version, feel free to write a comment here. Thanks for your attention and support!
