Цитата с БФ (bestfilez.net/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=31649&view=findpost&p=358070) Цитата: Warning: a serious bug in FontLab I've recently found a serious bug in FontLab 5.01 PC. Here is an easy test, to see if your version has this bug. - Open an OpenType-PostScript font. Go to Font Info --> Names and Copyright --> Basic set of font names. You have a value for "Width": Normal. Change this value for "Condensed". Click on "Apply" and "OK". - Now generate this new condensed font as on OpenType-PS font. Close the font in FontLab and open the new generated condensed font. Go to Font Info, look at the Width value: it's normal, not condensed! FontLab is generating all the OT-PS fonts with a "normal" width, even if these fonts are condensed, extended, ultra-extended, and so on! It is merging and confusing all the widths of the fonts. Technically, FontLab sets always the value of the usWidthClass of the OS2 table to 5, while this variable can have a value from one to nine (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otspec/os2.htm#wdc). This is a very serious bug. It leads to serious errors in the applications: InDesign see all the fonts as normal width, even the condensed and the extended, and the print drivers are confused. Width-values (condensed, normal, extended, and so on) are defining font styles exactly like weight-values (light, regular, bold, and so on). A font style is defined by these two parameters plus the upright-italic: for example, this font is Times Condensed Bold Italic, it's one of the styles of the Times font, like Times Extended Light or Times Normal Italic. To force all the widths to Normal is as absurd as to force all the weights to Regular! I don't have made the test with other versions of FontLab, and with TrueType and Type 1 fonts. And I don't know if it's possible to force FontLab to set correctly the with value. See yourself, you are warned. |
