Work with versions
- [Voiceover] Most IT departments have guidelines or restrictions in place regarding what versions of an application must be installed on an employee's computer. Just because a new version of a tool is complete and available for use doesn't mean your department will let you use it. You may need to install an older version of a Chocolatey package to comply, or you may need an older version due to licensing issues or bug problems with newer versions. For this example, I'll list all the packages with the phrase FileZilla. This is my favorite ftp client.
Here is the information I'm looking for. The ID of the package is FileZilla, and the most recently approved or highest version number approved is 3.16.0. I'll attempt to install FileZilla. This will use the highest version number. Here's the verification, it's attempting to install version 3.16.0 I'd rather install an older version, so at this moment I'll type the number two to stop the install.
Wait for the status message, it says, The install of FileZilla was not successful. That's because I canceled the install. And I'll type in clear screen, cls, now I'll press the up arrow on my keyboard to step through my previous commands. I'll add the all parameter to see all of the versions of FileZilla available on the public server. Here they are.
And I'll press Control C to stop the list. I think I would like to install version 3.10.0 Here was the command I used before, now I'll just add an extra parameter here, version= and then the number I want to install, 3.10.0 And now we see the verification that I'm installing the older version.
I'll press Yes to continue. And while this is installing, let's review. You can install any version of a package as long as you know the ID and version number. To get a list of version numbers, use the -all parameter in your search. And now I'll verify that FileZilla is installed and look at the version number. There it is, 3.10.0. |
