Super-sub Sergei Rebrov came on to turn the game around, scoring two goals to make it a 4-2 win away to Konyaspor. The Ukraine international had impressed during this week`s training sessions, and Head Coach Christoph Daum gave him a chance in the most critical time of the game.
Another key double subsitution by the German coach, putting in Yusuf and Rebrov in place of Kemal and Aurelio, increased our attacking force against a well organised Konyaspor team.
The game`s first goal came in the 17th minute after an excellent crossfield ball to Serhat by Petkov, who controlled and volleyed to Tuncay who headed in from close range.
A mistake by Recep resulted in an equaliser for Cenk in the 25th minute. The young keeper came out to catch an easy looking ball, but was caught in two minds and fluffed the catch, letting in Cenk to convert.
It was a night for firsts, and Brazilian international centre back Fabio Luciano was to put his name under one. His presence in the opposition box game after game finally paid off, as the tall stopper headed in right in front of keeper Ali Uyan?k, 2-1.
Four minutes into the second half, a penalty given away by Tomas was scored again by Cenk to give the home side a boost in this game. The goal was continued by a good spell of pressure from the home side, but this diminished towards the final 20 minutes with the fitness taking over talent for both teams.
The turning point in the game once again came with Daum`s substitutions, who brought on Yusuf and Rebrov in the 74th minute. Only four minutes later, Serhat turned assister again, this time crossing in from the left with his left foot for Rebrov to rise like salmon and head in amongst the tall Konya defence.
Rebrov scored his first goal for Fenerbah?e this season, but he wasn`t to be contempt with that. Two minutes after making it 3-2, Serhat run onto van Hooijdonk`s through ball and made his third assist for Rebrov, who placed into an empty net at the back post, making it 4-2. |
