At the more R&B-friendly vinyl conventions, one of the ways that funk addicts try to gauge who is truly hip is to find out how much he/she knows about Pleasure. Anyone with even a casual interest in '70s funk knows about Parliament/Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, and the Ohio Players -- the people who are hip to Pleasure tend to be the sort of listeners who look beneath the surface and are downright obsessed with the funk and soul of that era. And for the serious funk connoisseur, the arrival of this reissue in 2002 was a blessed event. That year, Fantasy reissued Pleasure's first two albums (1975's Dust Yourself Off and 1976's Accept No Substitutes) back to back on this 76-minute CD. In the U.S., the original LP versions of those albums had been out of print for a long time, and it was great to see them back in print. Both albums were produced by Wayne Henderson, which makes perfect sense because -- like the members of Pleasure -- the former Crusaders trombonist holds both jazz and funk/soul in high regard. Both of these albums called for a producer who felt that way; although Pleasure didn't pretend to be Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, it did bring jazz elements to its funk/soul foundation. And the jazz influence is all over this CD; one hears jazz overtones on funk smokers like "Bouncy Lady" and "Pleasure for Your Pleasure," as well as on relaxed quiet storm fare such as "My Love" and "The Love of My Life." Although Fantasy's 1993 release The Greatest of Pleasure is the best place for novices to get started, this reissue is enthusiastically recommended to funk and soul addicts who want to hear more than just the basics. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

Full of Fire is the second to last '70s effort that Al Green co-produced with Willie Mitchell. While much of Green's previous work (I'm Still in Love With You, Call Me, Al Green Explores Your Mind) spotlighted Green's skill at doing songs filled with romance and longing, on Full of Fire he's more concerned with his burgeoning religious nature. Although that may seem slightly boring, the album is better structured and, as a whole, comes off even better than Al Green Is Love. The first track, "Glory, Glory," sneaks in religion so deftly that even Willie Mitchell probably didn't even get it until the track was done. One of the few romantic tracks, the sweet and old-fashioned "Always," has him coming in soft with much charm. "I'd Fly Away" and "Soon as I Get Home" both have Green fantasizing about heaven, but they're both spacey rather than morbid. The last track, the hard-edged "Let It Shine" is enlivened by Howard Grimes' patently surprising drumming. Although Green isn't always all there on Full of Fire, his co-production with Mitchell and the playing of Hi Rhythm makes this an essential offering. ~ Jason Elias, All Music Guide

Немного впечатлений. Диск оказался даже несколько попсовым, веселеньким. Парочку вещей можно даже играть на дискотеках. Такого драйва, как на Black Parade, нет. Но он все же показался мне интересным.
 
Диск мой, привезен из UK, рип тоже соответственно мой, для ru-board.

In 1977 Mandrill showed signs of having listened to fusion and had more or less left the Latin rock behind. The African influences were also granted less room on their records, and if they still stuck out from the bulk of funk bands, the gap was slowly closing. We Are One starts with the two dance hits "Can You Get It" and "Funky Monkey," complete with inspired monkey screams. These are maybe the strongest tracks on the album, with great percussion work, fat basslines, and building horns. And ironically, in being just excellent funk numbers, they are also proof of Mandrill losing some of the creativity that made them different from most other funk bands. But if it is true that one won't find rumbling African drums or musical journeys through all Afro-American musical styles on this album, the rest of the songs do offer a banjo-esque guitar, a harmonica solo, and some distorted rock riffs, all uncommon in late-'70s funk. With ears dead set on the trends of the moment but still drawing now and then on his jazz past, Quincy Jones came up with another classy-sounding pop album loaded with his ever-growing circle of musician friends. Disco was king in 1978 and Jones bows low with the ebullient dance hit "Stuff Like That" -- which is several cuts above the norm for that genre -- along with a healthy quota of elegantly produced soul ballads. Yet amidst the pop stuff, Jones still manages to do something fresh and memorable within the jazz sphere with a gorgeous chart of Herbie Hancock's "Tell Me a Bedtime Story." Hancock himself sits in impeccably on electric piano, and violinist Harry Lookofsky painstakingly overdubs one of Hancock's transcribed solos on 15 violins. Despite the cast of hundreds that is now de rigueur for Quincy Jones, the record does not sound over-produced due to the silken engineering and careful deployment of forces. ~ Richard S.
